Here is a great activity and way to celebrate birthdays, events and milestones by using 1″ Gum Balls. Very easy to make!!
Uh-huh…cute right? What you’ll need (per flower): 1 plastic balloon stick, 1 clear elastic band or ribbon to match 7 small gumballs 1 large gumball 1 cellophane cut into circle shape (check the gift wrap section of your dollar store for cellophane gift wrap)
For the life of me, I couldn’t keep the smaller gumballs from rolling around when I tried to balance them around the larger gumball in the balloon stick’s cup and wrap with cellophane, still very hard…
Hint…. assemble them upside down… much easier to get everything to stay still…
1. Place the cellophane circle in a small, shallow bowl. Nope, a plate won’t work, gumballs like to roll.
2. Place the large gumball in the center of the cellophane circle, then surround the gumball with the smaller gumballs.
3. Set the balloon stick cup on top, then gather the cellophane around gumballs and secure at base of the balloon stick with your clear elastic band or ribbon.
Haribo made the first gummy candy in 1922 when Hans Riegel Sr. made the first gummy bear. After Hans Riegel Sr. died during World War II, his son, also named Hans Riegel, took over the company. Haribo expanded its operations taking over many local sweet manufacturers in countries all over the world.

The German advertisements have been voiced by Thomas Gottschalk since 1991. Slogans used in various languages around the world seem to be variations on the same theme, written to rhyme in most languages.
The Laffy Taffy candy has been around for decades under the Willy Wonka brand, as produced by Nestlé, establishing itself as an American classic treat with its sweet, chewy, fruity goodness. The candies are individually wrapped, and come in a larger 45 g “slab” format or smaller 1.5 g fun-size format. The four standard flavors that the smaller pieces come in are banana, cherry, strawberry, and green apple. YOU’LL NEED:• Gummy candy (I used rainbow fish, sharks, hammer head sharks, lobsters, and starfish – all purchased at bittermancandy.com) • bakers twine (purchased at Target) • craft punch (Martha Stewart crab punch from Michaels) • cardstock • bamboo skewers • clear bags (I used 4×6 bags from Hobby Lobby) • scissors • small hole punch
INSTRUCTIONS:1. Insert gummy candies onto the skewer, alternating from one style to the next. (Make it about an inch shorter than your clear bag so you have some room to tie the bag at the bottom.)
Tip: Only insert the skewer half way through the top gummy. This will ensure that the point of the skewer isn’t sticking out.
2. Punch out little critters with the craft punch and colored cardstock.
3. Using the small hole punch, punch a hole in the middle of the little critter.
4. Insert bakers twine in the punched out critter.
5. Place the bag over the gummy skewer and tie the bakers twine & critter on it to the base of the skewer
This American flag is made entirely of candy, and is perfect for a 4th of July party or picnic. This recipe makes one large 12×17” flag, but if you prefer smaller flags, you can make it through step 7 and then cut the base into whatever size rectangles you desire, and decorate them accordingly.
Ingredients:
4 tbsp butter
4 cups miniature marshmallows
6 cups crispy rice cereal
2 cups (12 ounces) white chocolate chips
1 can (16 ounces) vanilla frosting
3 blue fruit roll-ups
4 red fruit roll-ups
Preparation:
1. Prepare a 12×17” jelly roll pan by lining it with waxed paper and spraying the paper with nonstick cooking spray.
2. Place the butter in a large microwave-safe bowl, and microwave until melted, about 45 seconds.
3. Add the miniature marshmallows to the bowl, and microwave until the marshmallows are completely melted, about 1 minute, stirring every 30 seconds. Stir the mixture until it is completely smooth.
4. Add the rice cereal and stir until the cereal is completely coated. Immediately pour the mixture out onto the prepared baking sheet. Spray your hand with nonstick cooking spray, and press the candy into the sheet in a thin layer. Make sure the candy fills the whole baking sheet in an even layer.
5. Place the white chocolate chips in a large microwave-safe bowl. Microwave until melted, about 1.5 minutes, stirring halfway through the cooking time.
6. Once the chocolate is melted, add the vanilla frosting and stir until the mixture is smooth and well-combined. Immediately pour this fudge over the cereal candy and use an offset spatula or knife to spread it smooth. Make sure the fudge covers the entire area, including the corners, and that it is an even thickness throughout.
7. Place the sheet in the refrigerator to set the fudge layer for about 1 hour.
8. Once the fudge is set, you can add the stars and stripes decorations. Unroll the blue fruit roll-ups, and use a small cookie or fondant cutter to cut out stars. I used almost 3 full roll-up sheets to make my blue patch, but yours might vary depending on the candy you buy. If you don’t have a star-shaped cutter, you can make stars with frosting, or use mini-marshmallows or white chocolate chips to stand in for white stars. Whatever you decide to do, place the blue fruit roll-ups in the upper left corner of the “flag.”
9. Cut the red fruit roll-ups into thin strips, and lay them in horizontal rows, leaving equal amounts of white space in between.
10. This candy flag can be made several days in advance. To store, cover the flag with a layer of cling wrap in the refrigerator. To serve, cut into small squares with a sharp knife.

Candy Crush Saga is the latest mobile game craze, available for Android, iOS, Facebook and online. It’s your average match-three puzzler, but a variation on the theme that sees gems swapped with sweets and other tasty treats. It’s deliciously addictive. See Android Advisor.
Hailed as ‘the sweetest game’, Candy Crush Saga invites you to “join Mr Toffee and Tiffi on an exciting journey through the world of candy”. As with any game of its genre, you match like sweets in a line of three or more to gain points and bonuses. In common with that other great gem-puzzler, Bejeweled, the more sweets you match with each move the more candy bombs you create, points you collect and faster you progress.
Each level of Candy Crush Saga is slightly different, whether you have to get rid of all the sweets encased in jelly within a certain number of moves, achieve a certain point-score within a given amount of time, or drop the various ingredients for a tasty recipe to the bottom of the grid. It requires a degree of logic that keeps you entertained through Candy Crush’s more than 100 levels, which encompass various ‘episodes’ such as ‘Lemonade Lake’ and ‘Candy Factory’.
You’re awarded up to three stars for your performance within each level, and you can return to any previous level in hope of achieving a perfect score.
Candy Crush Saga offers you five chances to screw up and, once you’ve run out of lives, you must either put down the game and wait for your health to be replenished, or stock up by begging your Facebook friends for more or forking out real cash. This becomes a problem only when you get reasonably far into Candy Crush and the difficulty ramps up, at which point the countless entirely free alternatives start to become attractive.
Various upgrades can be unlocked in the Yeti Shop: the Charm of Life bosts your extra lives store from five to eight, but costs £11.99; Charm of Stripes lets you paint stripes (the equivalent of a four-sweet match) on any candy once per game for £27.99; and Charm of Frozen Time makes time stand still on time-limited levels, costing £17.49. Playing the game this way can be expensive but, unless you have a serious sweet-tooth, you needn’t part with any money. If you’re giving this game to a child to play, you’d be wise to disable in-app purchases in your device’s settings.
What’s really neat about Candy Crush Saga, though, is the ability to pick it up and continue your game wherever you are and on whatever device you have to hand. Simply connect via your Facebook account and continue the saga as you switch from PC to tablet to smartphone. Facebook interaction also enables you to compete with friends, although in general terms we aren’t keen on any game that encourages you to spam your social-networking contacts.
This cross-platform support is partly what makes Candy Crush Saga so addictive: when your phone runs out of juice you just pick up the tablet, and when that squeals ‘charge me’ you turn on the PC. That one’s most likely plugged into the mains and, if it dies, you really should get out more.
However, Candy Crush Saga is also popular with users because it’s simple enough that anyone can pick it up and get started without instruction (although help is provided in the form of in-game tutorials and a help guide), yet sufficiently difficult that you won’t simply breeze through the game in an hour.
Once you get to level 35 Candy Crush begins charging 69p per episode. The only way to get around this is to link the game to your Facebook account and pester your friends.
Candy Crush Saga is an addictive puzzle game that anyone can pick up and play. The ease with which you can continue your game on multiple devices is a huge plus point, but the frustration caused when you run out of lives could easily lead you to look elsewhere for your mobile gaming fix.

In this new wave synth-pop bizarro world, the only way to relax after a long day’s work is to reward oneself with a new pack of Bubble Yum. The commercial is perfect: like Bubble Yum itself, it’s fun, colorful, and a little weird. Bubble Yum is clearly not trying to sell us on nostalgia or tradition–this is a gum for people who just want to “Yum it Up”. Two new flavors are introduced, but it doesn’t really matter–they could have said “It comes in green now!” and the commercial would still be as effective, due to the fact that the presentation of Bubble Yum was always more impressive than the taste. If Gwen Stefani ever feels like Yumming It Up, I’m sure a remake of this commercial would still work today.
9. Hershey Bar
This one was a little before my time, but when I told people I was compiling this list, this commercial was always mentioned as a sentimental favorite. It’s hard to argue with the claim: if any chocolate bar is distincly American, it would have to be the Hershey bar. The commercial itself is a celebration of America: diversity, Americana, and the landscape itself are all prominently featured. Hershey wanted you to know that it thought America was pretty great, and that America, apparently, felt the same about Hershey.
8. Ring Pop
The Ring Pop people wanted to take it slow here. Perhaps they thought the idea of a lollipop ring was a bit too difficult for children to grasp. That can be the only explanation for the first line of this jingle:You can wear a ring around your finger! Ring Pop! Stay with us, kids! You can wear a ring around your finger!
Then, after 10 seconds of showing children eating their Ring Pops, the jingle informs us: It’s a lollipop, without a stick! A ring of flavor you can lick! So that’s what it is! Brilliant.
Even at age seven I knew this commercial was a bit insulting. Still, it was really catchy, and Ring Pops are delicious, up until the point where they melt all over your finger and you just look crazy trying to get the last bits of delicious lolly flavor from your once bejeweled hands.
7. Doublemint Gum
For some reason, it seems that gum jingles are much more memorable than their candy counterparts. There have already been two gum jingles on the countdown, and there are more to come. This particular jingle is peppy, repetitive, and even more effective when played over double-takes of happy people whose happiness is clearly linked to their use of Doublemint Gum. It there is a clear message here: “Chew Doublemint and you will be attractive and loveable.” No Single Gum, indeed.
6. Almond Joy
Almond Joy, I’ll have you know, has nuts, and Mounds don’t. If this commercial is as ingrained in your mind as it is in mine, then you know exactly why that is.
5. Big Red
I have to be honest: I hated these commercials growing up. They would always come on while I was watching TV with my parents, and there is nothing worse than being 10 years old, watching TGIF with Mom and Dad, and having a commercial come on wherein two people kiss endlessly thanks to their long-lasting fresh breath. Am I alone on this? One second I’m watching DJ Tanner in a crisis, and then, boom–it’s the Big Red Make Out Minute. Gross!
4. Mentos
Oh, the Mentos commercials. For a while there in the early 1990′s, they were pretty inescapable. The Foo Fighters even went so far as to parody them in their “Big Me” video, further cementing their pop-culture status. Like most things that become pop phenomenons, we fell for the Mentos commercials because they were silly, dumb, and horribly catchy. As the jingle promises: “nothing gets to you, staying fresh, staying cool”, when you have a pack of Mentos in your pocket.
We learn in this particular commercial that “staying fresh, staying cool” gives this woman the nerve to do things she ordinarily wouldn’t do, like, say, asking four guys to pick up her car and move it out of its blocked-in parking spot. Even the jerk who blocked her in is impressed with her moxie! Mentos has softened his cold heart as well. The Freshmaker has truly worked its magic on all of us.
3. Juicy Fruit
Juicy Fruit is gonna move ya….for about 15 seconds, until the flavor wears out. But still, for those 15 seconds, you are going to ski like you’ve never skied before. Why was everyone skiing in these commercials? It was always water skiing or ski jumping with Juicy Fruit. Are you even supposed to chew gum while you flip around on skis? Isn’t that incredibly dangerous? And why is everyone on the mountain in shorts and half-buttoned shirts? Does Juicy Fruit move you enough to protect you from frostbite? As an East Coast kid, I always felt like a bit of a poseur with this gum. I really wanted it to transport me to a world of sun and fun, but Juicy Fruit wasn’t moving me anywhere, except to the driveway to shovel, and I always had to wear a hat.
2. Tootsie Roll
“Tootsie Roll, I think I’m in love with you.” How could you not be, after watching this commercial? It’s sweet and lovely and will most likely get stuck in your head for the rest of the day. Many of us have probably imagined a world made of candy at some point or another, and this commercial captures that perfectly. This commercial was old when I was a kid, but I still loved it. It’s a bit like a Tootsie Roll itself: it may be old school, but it’s still one of the best.
1. Kit Kat
You have to be careful when you have a Kit Kat bar in your hands. It is almost certain that someone will ask you to “gimme a break” off of it. Once one person asks, two more will join in, then four, and soon enough your entire office/classroom/family/ neighborhood/tri-state area will be singing along, begging for you to give them a break as well. There are only 4 pieces to a Kit Kat bar. If this jingle breaks out, and you only have one Kit Kat, you might consider running. Very, very fast.
